I have always maintained a high level of investment in my practice and in this respect I am always keen to learn of new vision correction modalities that will benefit my patients. In this respect I have been very interested in a new type of contact lens that is worn overnight and corrects your vision while you sleep. The lens is removed each morning and for the rest of the day normal vision is achieved without the use of any other type of visual aid.

This is an ideal alternative for those people that are interested in laser surgery, but are worried about the risks and for those that have a mild dry eye and cannot wear lenses for a sufficient time during the day. In fact I fall into the second category, so I tried the DreamLite Ortho K lens myself.

I really could not believe the results. On the very first morning, when I looked out of bathroom window I could, for the first time see very clearly every leaf on the trees at the end of the garden !

Later at the practice I confirmed my acuity ( visual accuracy ) as 6/6 and I did not need any other correction for the rest of the day, additionally I have not worn my specs since then. Previously, due to dry sensitive eyes I could not tolerate any type of contact lens in daytime wear for more than four hours and that was not good for my golf !

I have now provided the DreamLite lenses to several of my patients that range in age from 13 to 66, so this product is not limited to age and very recently I checked the acuity of one of those patients that has been using the lenses for 3 months. That patient recorded an acuity of 6/4.5, that’s one and a half lines lower on the chart than standard vision!

DreamLite is an amazing break through and I am pleased to be able to add this new type of vision correction to my practice.
